Meryl Streep in 'Julie & Julia'

Meryl Streep in 'Julie & Julia'

Stepping into the theatre I knew I would enjoy Julie & Julia … simply for the fact that the spectacular Meryl Streep is the star and can do no wrong when it comes to cinema. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the supporting cast and the fantastic Amy Adams (star of Enchanted and Junebug) in making this romantic-comedy a stand out. Read the rest of this entry »

So far this year, I have seen a ton of movies … I don’t think I can even ponder on how many times I’ve been to the cinema this year alone. Sadly, I’ve been disappointed. However, blaming the whole industry for the crap-tastic Nicolas Cage one-track, monotone voice in Knowing or the incredibly ridiculous, hilarious (not in a good way) Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, won’t do anyone any favors. Therefore, I think it’s important to highlight the few gems that have come our way.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

So … I know a bunch of people were pissed that the movie wasn’t set in England. But, honestly, if people got over these stupid notions that every adaptation has to be the same word-for-word on-screen, they wouldn’t have given a shit and enjoyed the movie a lot more. This flick is extremely cute and funny and Isla Fisher is amazing. She encompassed the extreme of materialism in the world. The crap-tacular movies shoved down America’s kisser for January have already come and gone and the Academy Awards for the past year are just around the corner. The nominations weren’t that much of a surprise, but there were those few surprises and snubs…Don’t worry, I’m not afraid to go there and give it to those Academy bitches. Enjoy!

Best Motion Picture of the Year
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
Dev Patel & Freida Pinto in 'Slumdog Millionaire'

Dev Patel & Freida Pinto in 'Slumdog Millionaire'

The Best Picture race is not all that unusual…the intense drama flicks and political movies raid the category. It is really not that hard to predict that Slumdog Millionaire will win. They have won everything and they are the total underdogs! The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a very strange movie, it’s not the typical drama that get’s nominated and the Academy likes different. Frost/Nixon and Milk are both very strong political movies and The Reader involves Nazi’s…so, of course they will get nominated. All the other movies are great, but Slumdog Millionaire came from the bottom and rose to the top.
